My Nephew bought an old house and found this gun in the attic. Almost no markings other than J. W. C. on each side of the barrel near the cylinder and a stamp that looks like a star and the letters PK on the cylinder. Trying to find out what it is and any help from you gun experts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like a copy of the Colt cap and ball revolver that someone shortened the barrel on.

Correction not all had front sites, so it might be the actual barrel length.

Your revolver's "main" metal body is that of a Remington 1858 revolver. However, your revolver's curved-bottom backstrap (the metal strap which the wooden handle's "grips" attach to) is not correct for a Remington 1858. The Remington revolvers all had a serial number stamped on the brass trigger guard's front tab ...but you do not mention any serial number marking on your revolver. Also, the letters JWC are in a primarily 20th-century font. Lastly, the letters "PK" may indicate it is a Reproduction made by Pietta.

Actually it is a PN, it is the Gardone Italian black powder proofmark. Not brand specific, all Italian manufactured black powder guns have it.
