??? Can anyone help me with identifying this button , it is about the size of a dime , brass , 2 piece , has no markings on the back , any info such as age , military branch , etc, etc. would be great . It has an Eagle with wings spread , holding something in both feet , and a sheild . It was found in an old mining camp in Colorado . Thanks

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I was starting to wonder if us Colorado boys were'nt welcome here :)
I added 2 new pictures, that hopefully will help.

Re: Need Help identifying this Eagle button

Lots of the CW eagles were turned into poker chips. This might be one.

Nobody responded so I will try. It may be an Officers Staff button. There are various shield designs.

Can we see a pic of the back and sides? http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,295338.0.html

Hi, Thanks for the answer ,& pic's. The head , tail , & feet look very similar , but the wings are different

Yep. They had to use something. Buttons were poker chips and bullets were checkers.

For this button, I think it is a modern blazer button. Just doesn't have the CW war look to it or the backmark it needs.

If you dug that in the Teller Co gold fields I doubt it's modern. Welcome

In my world, as crazy as it is, a modern button is post WWI.

I firmly believe it is pre WW1 as all the other items that were found date late 1890s. I came to this date by an embossed bottle that is dated from a local bottle book & also a city directory

We seem to go around this tree quite a bit. You can't date a find from the finds around it. Just doesn't work that way.

I would assume if it's a CW button that it is Union army ??
Yes it would be Union Army. While there may be variations, you realize your shield doesnt match. Some better pics may help. Do you have a macro lens setting?

Also you have a lined field and no backmark.
