The mineral I'm holding with the blue glove , is very slippery almost oily like, I used a Dremel with a tungsten carbide bit to see what it would do to the mineral and to my surprise The tungsten Dremel bit lost most of its rough grip... And the mineral remained the same

I am not a geologist or gemologist but hereabouts we have similar rock with quartz that we call Herkimer Diamonds.

But raw diamonds look identical

Tungsten carbide is harder than quartz - so it may well be worth having them checked out.

Sounds pretty hard. I can only guess that the matrix rock is an igneous type lava that came in contact with those crystals when it was molten, as they don't look to have formed in that rock imo. Diamonds are found in a igneous type rock called Kimberlite, check out those images... Every time I think I find a thrift store piece of jewelry with a possible diamond I run up to the pawn shop and they touch it with their tester. It works I think on how fast the element conducts heat. See what that tester does on that crystal. I found a diamond that was the color of green tea about the size of a BB panning in a Colorado mountain stream. I took it to the Jeweler in Salida Colorado and his heat tester beeped good on it. I don't know now what I did with it. It could still be around in some of the stash places of mine or I left it with the shack-up from those days, as it was in the early 1980's when I found it. I do remember where I found it and the type of underlying layer I washed it from. Some day I hope to go back and see if I can relocate that special layer of stuff again and maybe find some more. I don't have a bucket list. I have a someday list.

That's an interesting specimen. The crystal you removed appears to be pitted which is a good indicator of hardness. Almost looks like corundum (Sapphire). What state was it found in? You should post these photos over in the Rocks/Gems section of TreasureNet. Collectively, we identify most mineral specimens. Here is the link:

Hope we can help! -Luke

The metallic sheen is there, along with hardness and oily feel. Take it to a pawn shop or jeweler for testing. Along with kimberlite, diamonds are also found in lamporite. Let us know!

Thank you gentlemen I highly appreciate your knowledge and input that you've shared and for taking the time and putting forth an effort towards helping me find an answer for my matter at hand. Thanks LUKE for that helpful tip and to answer your question , the state Im in is California and I will post what the pawn shop states 'bout the mineral

Could be a very translucent variety of chalcedony. A carbide cut should have made some difference~ or polished it a bit however dry cutting and to much speed will dull out a dremel tool bit quite quickly. Oily or waxy feel is common for the mineral and in ingenious rock its not uncommon~ the base rock appears to be ingenious. By all means see how the crystal sample tests on a diamond tester as diamond has similar tactile properties and appearance.

@ DDancer .. I actually tried it at low speeds with water as well . I had to buy two Dremel bits cause like u said dry cutting with the bits messed them up . Thanks , every bit of info or input is appreciated

I've been trying to find more, I have a 5 gallon paint bucket full of kimberlite🙈🙉🙊... And I recently found something similar to it I'm not sure what kind of rock it is but it has a bunch of diamond like crystals.. The rock is real Heavy and kind hard to break.. The outer part surface is smooth and the inside of the rock is rough ... O and when put under a UV light it glows for a moment after turning off light, like a fluorescent paint.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1420395592.365292.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1420395910.738737.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1420396000.515181.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1420396374.654224.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1420396632.499855.jpg

I am so excited for you! Finding a diamond is on my bucket list. I am on my last of 4 - 5 gallon buckets of gravel brought back from my Crater of Diamonds trip in October. So far some hopeful "maybe's" but no "hell yes!"

Thanks but I'm still in that disbelief state of mind I guess I won't really feel it until GIA grades it. I wish u the best of luck with that. Matter of fact I have plans of going out there to carter of diamonds to check it out myself .. I would love to hear that you found one but even if you don't just let me know the outcome of your search..
