Can you scratch it with a sharp knife. Is it heavy for it's size. Is it magnetic?
If you rub it on the underside of a toilet lid (Porcelain) what color is the mark if any?
All this stuff is SOP for IDing rocks.
Looks like what ever your counter top is made of haha, sorry couldn't resist
brownish/red streak with the appearance I would say specular hematite. At first glance looks like granite. Can you do a hardness test? if it's 6+ it's probably granite. Could be a few other things though, but those are my thoughts...
scratching with a knife like Hvacker said would help for the hardness unless you're comfortable doing a more pointed hardness test to try to narrow it down better

no problem how did you find that out? If you're relying just on my guess I wouldn't take that for gospel because it may not be correct, just seems to be the most likely answer. Someone ID it for you in person or a different site?
