Got out for an hour hunt today on the old late 1800s homestead and carriage road. Didn't find much. Found an old head stamp that I can't read. A lot of iron is scattered everywhere. We have found tons of horse tack here. I'm guessing the 2 big pieces of iron are, as well. But then I found this strange square piece with lots of holes in it. My first thought was maybe a heel plate of an old shoe? I have never seen one but given the amount of holes and their placement, that is what I came up with. It may be something totally different for all I know. So, anybody know what it is? Thanks for any input! GL and HH. 20161214_170111.webp

Looks like a clock part.

The bottom pics are a piece of a clock like Fullstock stated. I have found many, some still have a few gears on them.

I agree, back to a clock. I have dug a few myself

I agree with the clock part answers. I have a box full of them, many with the mechanisms and winder included. Those are big pieces of iron. I thought they were keys until I saw the shot shell next to them for scale! :icon_thumright:

First image, object on right side = lynch pin.

From the size it looks more like a broken snaffle bit to me, rather than a lynch pin.
