This was found in a slave cabin that was being dismantled. It was inside of the wall. These are the only pictures I have at this time. Paper lines for reference show the size about the size of a us quarter.
Any ideas?

I don't much about old ancient coinage, but I feel pretty certain it didn't come from this continent. From the look of it I'm going to say from the Byzantine Empire in age. Someone here on TN may dive in deeper then I'm willing to do this morning to figure out what it is you have. May even be a fake or replica coin :dontknow:

Awesone point in the right direction, appears to be a Constantine X & Eudicous (sp) coin circa 1050s AD from what I see online.

So now the question REALLY bothering me with this find is this.
IF it was found in the USA,,,
JUST HOW did a coin from the 1050's end up where it was found?
THIS is one of the driving questions I have,,,and that very question is what originally brought me to this site.
The finding of ancient coinage from ancient civilizations that have been found in the CONTUS.
Quite a few from Pennsylvania,,where I live but I am pretty sure they have been found in just about every state at one point or another.
HOW DID IT GET HERE? That is what I wanna know.

Several 2nd or 3rd century Roman coins have been found on Plum Island and in Beverly, Mass -- back in the 70s or 80s I think. The common, and probably most likely thought is that they were in ships' ballast.

I too think it is amazing that a coin like that can end up in a slave cabin in the US. With the amount of wear, it looks to have been carried a long time. Can you tell us what state it was found in. Tony
