I recently found this eagle button in a church yard that dates to 1858. The button is slightly smaller than a quarter dollar. The obverse is brass and the reverse is some sort of ferrous material (very rusty). There are no makers mark on the reverse due to corrosion. Any help would be appreciated.

That is a really great button.

I have found quite a few buttons, and yours beats most of them!!

Count the center array of stars and there are 13!!

You may have something special and older than you may think? I could be wrong....

Here is one very similar from the Waterbury Button Company website listed under the fashion heading. The rusted iron back is a good indicator of a civilian fashion button. But, I identified another button as military and everyone else thinks it is civilian so I could be wrong on this one!
