Need help identifying a button

I dug this at a new permission yesterday along with a lot of Civil war items. I've never dug a button like this. Does anyone know what it might be?

I find quite a few of these 'domed buttons' on War of 1812 Land Grant sites here in the east.
Your find is earlier then the buttons I found below which date to c1812.
