Need help identifing this key like object?

This object has a brass or copper top and the rest is iron and is about six inches long. Thank for your help!

My first thought too, but maybe a valve handle from an old radiator? Household, not automobile.

Is the iron section fairly uniform in size or does it taper?

The iron part doesn't taper it's the same the whole length. The picture looks like the end tappers but part of the iron has rusted.Thanks !

Being uniform, and having a shoulder on it, my guess is that it is a big key or a pin to something. The shoulder would indicate to me that it is suppose to bottom out on something. If it isn't a key, maybe a fancy hinge pin. I don't think it is a wrench or tool of any kind.
