need help id material of scraper-is it (petrified wood)???????

Walked my favorite creek yesterday for a couple of hours, I havent found a hole lot on this creek but I know they are there just waiting for me. I picked up a couple rocks that show some work and this scraper I guess, sure is cool looking with alot of blue in it, I would really like to know what the material is if anyone could help. I came upon a busy little beaver project, 3 days ago I didn't see any sign right there where he's damming it up. He has scooped up a ton of rocks under and against the limbs he hauled over and placed there. I will keep track of his work. Also this creek has a bunch of these banded water snakes, there is days when I see up to ten of these suckers, You would think you would get use to them but i jump everytime I come upon one. Some real pretty stuff, but sorry I am ignorant on lithics ( wife says ignorant on more than that)
Anyway it sure looks fine.
If that old beaver keeps damming it up you will have an excellent opportunity to hunt downstream.

Anyway it sure looks fine.

You always find the best looking material. Someday you are going to pull a banner find out of your creeks. I battle the beavers all the time. Hired a trapper for two years when the kits were dispearsing helped some. I now carry a grappling hook and pull the dams out with my 4 wheeler. The only time I like their dams is during wood duck season,lol.
Those banded water snakes will bite you............. have fun Bravo I think I may try a creek hunt Sat.

Thanks for the the kind words of encouragement about the material and creeks I just hope I have the eye to find one. I found out about those water snakes the hard way, back when my son was about 6 or 7 we were fishing when one came by and my dumb -ss grabbed it to show him and it grabbed ahold of my thumb and shook its head like a shark, i had to rip my thumb out of the beast mouth, last time I did that. Thanks for the reply uniface, I sure wish you could of told me the type of lithic the one I took the pictures of is. I thought maybe that one was a scraper because it was worked down on three sides. I have alot to learn and a burning desire to learn, its facinating to find and hold a tool that was used and created so many years ago. Well thanks again for all the info you have provided us all. TnM I thought that same thing, I have been looking for a tumbler for a while now, flea markets and auctions, something I can afford. I usually come home with plenty of stones for that purpose, what ever grabs me. I have rocks everywhere, which I am sure most of us do, cant help it.. Thanks Tn. JYD...

Hi JD

What you look for to distinguish a scraper from a something else is the edge angle. You have at least one scraper edge that I could see in your pictures, but most of them appear not to have been deliberately made for that purpose.

The guy you want to ask about lithics in your area is Neanderthal.
