Had a great weekend MD-ing in Lancaster, MA. Found a TON of stuff at a cellar hole with NJLARGECENT. Much more to ID, but let's start with the buttons I found! Buttons seem to be difficult (at least for me) to ID.

Some info on the cellar hole: We found some other items (Indian head penny, jar lids, etc.) that dates the property to the mid-1800s. Doesn't mean people weren't there before or after, but we know definitely during that time. Toasted modern penny included for scale :-)

This is either an O or a C with a ribbon through it:

This has a leaf/wreath design:

Brooks Bros New York. I can't seem to date it:

Button with train on it. I believe 72cheyenne properly dates it in this thread: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/119353-train-button.html This was found at another location, about a mile away near an old cemetery, hence being a little "newer."

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe this can help, it said to be Argentina train button?!

Cool buttons, and having to be a history detective makes it a challenge sometimes, GL AC

The leaf design I think is one of those odd '1 piece' that is 1890s.

I hadn't thought of searching for "1 piece" before. It's definitely yielding more results.

Why do you say "odd"?

Also, most one piece buttons I'm finding are listed as 18th century. What makes you say 1890?

Thanks for the input!!

It appears quite thin, possibly stamped...
I defer to Crusaders opinion here, hopefully he'll supply more info :icon_scratch:

Odd because most 1 piece are pre-1830 however some are late Victorian & this has all the hallmarks. Metal type (close to brass), thin, & patterned on the reverse. You will not find a 18th C example like it.

CRUSADER, you are the man. Thanks for being such an asset to us here on the forums. The search for a proper ID continues!
