New Orleans La - The Big Easy-
Detector(s) used
Garrett Ace 250
Hello everyone,
Im new to metal detecting and treasure hunting. I recently bought my first metal detector Garrett Ace 250. I went out today for my first trip. I tried a playground and found several quarters, one dime and a penny. Then I went to a old park here in the area and only found 2 pennies. If anyone lives in this area that can give some good ideas or advice would be great. Im really excited about metal detecting it seems like great fun. Any help would be greatly appreciated. John

Hey John,

Wow! You're first post! :o

I'm sure there's alot of "hot spots" in your area! ;)

If I was livin in your nick-of-the-woods, I'd meet-up with ya and we'd detect. ;)

Would like to see your finds as time marches on. :o

GOOD LUCK! :o

Welcome aboard,John. It's been yrs since I frequented NO.One great place to eat was at 'Fitzgearld's' on the north shore of Lake Pontchatrain.Across the roadway the whole area was like a park.Don't know what Katrina has done to the area.Try to get permission to hunt some of those hidden courtyards that are famous there, and maybe out around the zoo.Enjoy that 250 and goodluck.

I want to thank everyone for replying to my post. I look forward to sharing my finds with you guys/girls, and I look forward to seeing your treasures. Thanks John

Don't forget to spend some time in your own yard and the yards of
family and friends , you'll probably find a ton of cool stuff and it will
help you get to know your new detector.
HH ! keep at it :)

Welcome to T-Net, John!! Wish I could help you out, but I never MDed in NOLA. I know different locations down there, but I'm not sure rather it's safe to hunt there. Things have not been the same since Katrina.

Hey There,

I grew up in NO. You need to go to City Park. If you GoogleMap New Orleans, look for the most Southerly section of the park bounded on four sides by the 610, Marconi Blvd, City Park Blvd, and Wisner Blvd. This is the area of the park that had the most people picnicking, laying in the grass by the water, etc. You detect all along those little canals around there (look for nice flat picnic spots), and you are sure to find stuff.

You can also hit the small parks along Lakeshore Blvd by Lake Pontchatrain, and along the levee that runs behind them.

Best,

Mike

Wow is New Orleans really a chocolate city?
Are there still Gangs and thugs killing, and raping or did that calm down after they received the free government money?
Good luck!

No, no. You're thinking about Hershey, Pennsylvania. THAT's a chocolate city.

If I were in NO, I'd be trying to hunt the yard of every house in the Garden District and around any of the stops of the St. Charles trolley.

DCMatt's tip on hunting the houses in the Garden District and street car stops along St. Charles are on the money! Also, check the "neutral ground". I turned up an old metal Avon make-up or blush container with the mirror intact as well as toys, trinkets, etc. Across the river in Marerro (?), the old downtown had parking meters that turned-up coins on a weekly basis. The meters may still be there. Good luck!
