Need help finding out what this is its military 1800's ish thats my guess.

please help can anyone tell me what this is . Its the size of a silver doller or so. and how much is it worth?also found a super sharp seated liberty quarter 1876 . want to sell to get new detector i just started detecting and luv it im using a bounty hunter sharp shooter 2 need to up grade but dont have the cash .maybe i can sell my finds and get a better one. hear are some photos enjoy.thanks

The military item is the great seal of the us, someone will probably be able to date it for you here, from the size I'd guess a hat pin missing its back. Could also be part of a rosette, but I don't know much about those to say for sure.

The large brass disc showing the Great Seal of the US is a horsegear bridle-rosette. The US Army adopted the Great Seal for its insignia in 1902.

Your Great Seal rosette is missing the brass attachment bar from its back. Apparently the bar on yours was deliberately snipped off. Check the photo below to see what yours looked like before the bar was removed.

The other photos show your rosette as it would have been used on the horse's bridle.

I meant to mention in my previous reply:
In spwire's photo of the disc's back, you can see the two "stubs" of the snipped-off brass bar, to the right of the eagle's tail and to the right of the circle of clouds above the eagle's head. Compare those stubs' location with the location of the bar's base in the photo I posted.
