Need help figuring out what metal this is

Found this metal ring several years ago on an old farm site. When it came out of the ground there was no corrosion on it at all...the pic shows exactly how it looked the day it was uncovered. It is heavy for its size, and non-magnetic. Some on another website have suggested tungsten or platinum but the color may be too dark to be either of those. BTW, I just air tested it on the Etrac and it gave a 12-28 reading.

Monell ? not sure of spelling . used in fishing gear had a ring like it once does it ring when you drop it? I think it is a brass and nickel alloy

From the pics, I can't tell how thick it is, but it could be a Dorset ring for making Dorset buttons. Breezie

Is it magnetic? Part of a bearing? Looks like just plain old steel that is well burnished. Monty
