Need help dating this US Navy button.

I know it's around 1812, but the only one that I've found online says that it's an early US Naval button. No specific date though.

Your US Navy button with 16 stars and oval shield at left is shown in the Albert button-book as button NA-9. The only listed backmark is W. Wallis of Birmingham England. So, the NA-9 button is believed to pre-date the US-versus-Britain War-Of-1812 by a few years.

You made no mention of a backmark on your button. is it blank on the back?
