Hi All,

I dug this buckle yesterday in a section of woods that has produced items from the mid 1700's to the mid 1800's. It cleaned up very nice, and according to my AT-Pro, its solid silver. It weighs about 12.2 grams, and the dimensions of the actual buckle are 30 mm x 20 mm. Based on my preliminary research, I' guessing its mid-late 1700's. I would greatly appreciate any expert opinions out there on T- Net, Thanks, and HH.

Great find! I would say it's definitely silver. Anything out of the ground that's plated or other material ends up looking like crap, even after cleaning. At least here in Ct from what I've found. I'd say probably 18th century shoe buckle.

Seems kind of small for a shoe buckle IMO. Maybe a knee buckle.

I am certain that the "button" on the end is used to attach that buckle to something, someone will come along shortly and ID it.

Congrats on a really nice find!

Thanks very much for the feedback. I also thought it was on the small side, but wondered if it might be a child's shoe buckle. If not, maybe a knee buckle???
This was a fun target to dig, and even more fun to research!
