Hi Guys! First time poster, although I have used your site numerous times while researching in the past... I own a consignment store up in Canada, and these buckles were dropped off as part of a larger, fairly high end consignment. I am pretty convinced they are fake/reproduction, based on the backs, and I was hoping that somebody with more experience/knowledge in this field might be able to confirm to me that they are not original, or where I might continue my research if they have any chance of being legit. Thanks in advance for any info... Lawrence

100% fake or repro

No authentic buckles have those type of attachments.
Repos for sure

Thanks to both responses. I was pretty sure they were not accurate, but we don't get a lot of Civil War memorabilia up here in Canada and I just wanted to get a second/better opinion. Kind Regards, Lawrence

TheLaw14, what you were told above is correct. Here's a link to an authoritative website which will be helpful for recognizing a fake or reproduction or "altered" (artificial aging, or a fake bullet-hole) civil war belt buckle or plate. Important Note: the site covers much more than buckles & plates.
Fake, reproductions, and replicas of the Civil War

Link at that site to your CS-Oval cartridge-box plate:
Fakes, CS oval plate, "regulation", Confederate plates 144 to 147

Quote from that page:
"The originals were not lead filled and used scrap sheet for hooks."

Yes, unfortunately they are new, although reenactors will buy them.
