I know about Mel.Fisher, Dent's Run and the Victorio Peak treasure, I listen to a podcast called scared al the time they recently did a story about winning the lottery and it ruining people's lives. I thought a good subject would be treasures and legal problems that arise. If you post a story please provide a link do I can share this thread and they'll be able to have good compilation also if anyone can post very good links to the three I mentioned above that would great also thanks.

Well, one horror story is all the hard working slobs that eventually are taxed out of 50% of everything that they earned. Men in suits passing laws that take money without our consent is still stealing no matter how much they try to justify it.
Here in good ole Oz if you find a buried treasure it belongs to the Crown, Govt.
Not too many yrs ago a couple of guys detected a cache of buried gold sovereigns. They ended up letting slip they found them and not only did the govt take them off them they were fined for not reporting it!
Even relic hunting here for the most part has been outlawed. Destroying history they say. They'll fine us for scratching our butts next.

😊

You stop and camp on somebody else's lease and find a large specimen of "rare leaf gold" at the bottom of an old pit which you smash up and divide between your mates. (Which should be a crime in itself) You pull out your detectors and end up with over 1kg of gold, which you divide up between you, then put photos of your find on facebook.

The authorities somehow get involved and after the dust settles, the court decide that you have no rights to the gold as it was found on somebody else's lease.

They also find that the lease holder had no rights to the gold either, as they did not actually dig it up.

This means the gold was owned by the crown. And you and your mates are found guilty of theft and are each fined $5k.
