Hi folks,

Briefly hit a site that dates back to the mid 1800's, but it had a prior structure there supposedly from the 1700's and the area has seen quite a bit of history. My only good find on the small front lawn was this Dandy button, with fully intact shaft in perfect condition. No markings on button at all. Oddly enough it was only at 2" - so I believe the strata have been disturbed or eroded in this area - was finding much youger items deeper nearby. I don't know much about these buttons as I have only really found them this summer, but I am looking for an approximate date that this may have been lost. Thanks or any info.

Not a button expert :laughing7: But I agree it is an 18thc dandy. :icon_thumleft: I did just find one with the shank too - I think that is a first for me. Here is the pic so you can compare -

I found a dandy button in the yard of an early 1900s house not too far and at the same depth as a mercury dime :D Can really make your mind wonder how it happened.

Thanks BF! With your and TK's sage input I feel very comfortable with the timeframe. Thanks again! This site holds some real potential and much of it is under tarmac and gravel that may be bulldozed up - we'll see what happens.
