Looks more like a rivet or snap at first... what do you see with the dirt cleaned off the back?

Also, a clearer pictyure or drawing of that logo/design on front might be helpful.

Do you think that material might be burlap?

I tried cleaning the back but I just can't seem to get in there lol

Long, long ago, and far far away, they had buttons you could wrap cloth to match whatever cloth you were using.

My mom has used em. whatta ya think????

I remember seeing that sort of thing,, that is entirely plausible.
