Civilian clothing button, gilt brass, probably c. 1830-50. "London" indicates British origin, of course. "Fine Gilt" is what's called a "quality mark," referring to the finish of the metal, and was used by both British and American manufacturers.

In the south we refer to those as coin buttons used alot by Confederate forces.
