Hello,

Found this button at an old campsite set in woods that have been used from early colonial times and onward (and even saw some 1812 action). It looks like a naval button, based on the Eagle w/ anchor design, but I am not sure of it s age or authenticity. Can anyone provide some information?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
B

It looks like nobody wants to commit to this one... while it looks "Navy" it's eagle is facing the wrong way from all the examples I can find.

I am undecided... :-\ Maybe someone with a button book can be of more help.

How many stars does it have? Is there anything on the back?

Here is one that is facing left. It says it is a rare Civil War Navy button. The wings are not quite the same though.

Here are a few similar ones that are on Ebay. No real info though regarding their origin. :'(

This one looks a little closer to it based on the wings but it's hard to tell for sure since it's been painted.

The painted and the self shank buttons are not military.

That first one stated as rare CW is a london made navy button but is obviously not even close to yours. :(

Jims right,Its a must to post the back for a good i.d. because you can tell the age by the shank and words ..So many made over the years.. I have one like yours if you go to best finds and look under( buttons and bling )on the right side 1 pic..

I beleive it is a Navy button from the 1840's-1850's,there is a Tongue and Wreath buckle that has a very similar character on the center piece that dates 1840's.
