I found this today metal detecting a historic property in York, PA. Can anyone help me ID this button? The property has a dwelling dating back to the 1700s.

I'm not very knowledgable about buttons but I do know that one is cool. Good luck identifying it.

The lightning bolts in the eagle's claws tell me it is 20th C. Something related to military communications or air defense? :dontknow:

Not to worry. One the experts will be along shortly with all the details.

Cool button. I used to live in York county PA. Plenty of history there.

While its an absolutely beautiful design, Im afraid its a fashion button. I have seen it before on the Waterbury site listed under fashion but would have to search. Its an old civilian fashion button. Steel back early to mid 20th century my guess.

Here is a pic from my extensive button files.

Your image is from the Waterbury site. It's listed under Fashion - Eagles. Pattern # 26307 26307 - Eagles - Waterbury Button

I understand it looks old but thin steel back buttons are generally 20th century fashion types and we have found the exact design under fashion on the Waterbury site..
