Found this yesterday at a colonial site that's also give up a small amount of CW era finds including this button. It looks almost identical to some of the PA state seal buttons in the Alberts book but without the eagle. Someone mentioned that it was a livery button, but was wondering if there's a chance if it's some variant of the PA button. Probably not, but thought someone here might know. Thanks.

I agree its similar to the PA state seal (first pic) but I found a fashion button also very similar but with eagle.(2nd pic) I think its a very good chance its a civilian fashion button mid 1800's-mid 20th century.

i AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE BUTTON, BUT WHAT KIND OF CAMERA ARE YOU USING THAT GETS SUCH CLEAR QUALITY PHOTOS?

Its just a relatively inexpensive Canon PowerShot ELPH 100HS. It came from Costco on sale for about $129 if I remember correctly. Just use the macro mode and make sure it's focused before snapping.

Most of the later PA buttons had the keystone, not the eagle. Without either I don't think it is a PA guard button.
