Hello,
This weekend I found a very old and very worn Morgan Dollar. I want to clean it up a little, but don't want to disturb what little detail is left. I found it in the ocean, on a salt water beach. The coin is black, as shown in the picture. I have been told electrolysis would work well, but don't want to do it unless I am sure it will not hurt the remaining details. This is my first silver coin, and I want to preserve it for my own collection. Not the most valuable coin, but it bears sentimental value to me.
On the beach, I could faintly make out a date. Thinking silver polish would be safe, I tried a little, and now the date is gone. I am upset, but, what can I do? Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help me with this. I greatly appreciate any and all advice.
