With out giving up to much info. on the research I have done so far. I am looking for a cache of paper money from around the 1930's 40's. The person who hid the cache used 30 cal ammo cans wrapped bill in cellophane and brown paper bags. He had several cache sites in different states on property he owned. Only one has been found by accident no less $200,000 in a ammo can, that I know of. He was a millionaire and had made a claim he could fit a half million in thousand dollar bills in one 30 cal ammo can.
The area I plan on looking holds a very large vacant building and several outer building most outer buildings are wood structure and falling in or boarded up. This site is on the side of a big hill very steep not easy walking. The only account of a eye witness is that he was seen headed up the hill with a lunch box and a shovel and returned with just the shovel from a female employee.
I have been to the site to scout it out and being so overgrowen figured Fall would be the best time of year to work this. From old postcards of this site there are outer buildings up the hill more I did not see or look for at the time I was there, maybe a good place to start. There is not much soil to dig into before hitting rock but still very wooded area.
I plan on using a md around the structures, above ground rocks, large trees standing and stumps of fallen ones. Also want to check out the dirt floor of a grounds keeping type of shed seen up the hill from the main building.
I don't believe the cache will be in sight of the main building to many eyes.
Any tips or advice from you seasoned cache hunters would be welcomed. I won't be headed back for a few weeks.
