Primary Interest:
Shipwrecks
We don't need money, help with permits or a survey. We've already confirmed our target. We've got everything covered - except for a converted vessel with a grab system. These vessels are almost non-existent, and we'll likely need to convert one. The Deepworker (see video below) used to belong to Deep 6 prior to its recent sale. It's almost what we need, but the moon pool you see in the video is too small. I am hoping someone who reads this board will have an idea for a good vessel near Africa. PM me if you have knowledge of a possible vessel.

best of luck to you Darren on your project!

Thanks VOC, but we'll need a DP vessel, not one with a mooring system.

This book is a must read for anyone interested in private deepwater salvage Deep Water: Moya Crawford: 9780901281838: Amazon.com: Books

The Crawfords were well ahead of their time in the 90s. Good stuff.

And if you need technical support speak to Alex at Deep Tek About Us » Deep Tek

Thanks for this. we indeed may be needing his help.

And, thanks, BVI, for the well wishes!

What section of Africa? South Africa has some hefty antiquity laws for on land, even to dig a fossil requires a permit. Of course this would apply to land, have no idea how they view shipwreck salvage.

Hi . I was the salvage master for Deep6 and now I own the company but the vessel was sold .
I am in process of building another Roge system a to work 3000 meters and converting a heavy recovery DP vessel .

I was involved in Deepworker conversion and I built salvage equipment and the fottage of the Roge was taken by me working the FV off Vigo Spain
I am a specialist heavy recovery salvage master / Engineer and will discuss modern salvage

Check your private messages, Dave. I look forward to seeing your progress on your new DP vessel. It will open up a wider range of wrecks for you.

I was watching PBS "Antiques Roadshow" this episode may have been in S California, but a woman diver brought in some neat stuff found on wrecks off the coast of Africa. I noticed a couple gold bars the roadshow team identified as Chinese, very nice to look at and shape very interesting. I know China doesn't want anyone diving on a Chinese wreck, but the gold bars sure are neat if you could find any.

Hello Darren, Glad to see your doing what you love. What can be better than that, unless I can get a backer to get started!! Wrecks are showing up more and more on the beaches. Ed and myself are going metal detecting on beaches near these wrecks. Ed is the guy who took us out on his fishing boat when you were here using the mag. Anyway he has 6 months. [black lung]. So i'll still have a boat if needed.ButThe kids will run the boat. They lost their mom to cancer and now the Dad. Live for today. So after 4 years of doing very little searching for wrecks. I'm putting the word out again for a low cost backer. If I had a good researcher. I would have it made. You know whats going on with me. Put word out if you can. Still waiting on Ed to get it together. Good luck

Holy crap man,,,

AFRICA ?? REALLY !!

You will HAVE to have "protection". Those pirates there are pretty ruthless I have read.
There are quite a few videos out there that show Russian warships having some "fun" with pirates and their vessels.
I will not post those links for obvious reasons. But for sure, I would not be in the sea there unless the group was WELL armed and prepared to use it.

GOOD LUCK and keep those eyes open amigo

Sounds exciting anyway, kind of outright dangerous on the other coast, good luck and happy hunting Darren!

Hey Darrin, when do you plan on leaving?

Already moved to Trinidad a week ago, Pete. Been here off and on for the past three years - finally made the move. Come and visit anytime!

You keep finding what you're finding, and I'll make a move your way!

Will do, maybe we can fit one of those grab things you see at the fair to the sailboat?

Want a real Salvage ship? I worked on this ship and helped with the refit. This Ship was the Salvage Ship used on the Titanic when it was owned by Woods Hole.
Refurbished Atlantis II ready for service again | jacksonville.com210resarch-vessel-atlantis.jpg

Has a moon pool and side lift. A-Frame on the stern could be easily reattached, however the lead ballast was removed and for deep recovery would need to be reinstalled , side holes were cut to remove the lead while it was in dry dock. I can hook you up with the ship Engineer if you would like to know about the condition of this ship.
or how about one of these?

Notice it is the AtlantisII that is the mothership in this clip.
