Help if you can ! I found about a four foot piece of what ever this is, with my Ol' Bounty Hunter, on a piece of recently cleared ground. This piece is about two inches in diameter and is super heavy and very ridged. The core looks to be rotted copper conductors if that is possible. The whole piece looks to be insulated with lead? I am at a complete loss as to what its' purpose was. Another piece that I found with this looks to be capped with an air valve in the very end, but built in the same manner. The four foot piece I will guess weights close to 75 or 80 pounds. Mostly copper conductors and plastic insulators. Mystry cable.webp. This was all buried 12 to 20 inches. It was sure tough to recover. The picture was taken after I made a cut with a chop saw. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! The Kid:icon_scratch:

I hope someone knows, because I'm tagging this to follow it. I got no idea, except they wanted the signal shielded by the lead.

It's a heavy duty multi-conductor and low loss RF transmission line. Perhaps is or was there a radio or cell tower near by?

Thanks "Johnny Reb" looks like you are dead on or pretty dang close. :icon_thumright: I'm all "in" with your info" The sample drawing you sent is real close to what we have. I remember that this property was the home of our rural electrical co-op! I can't remember but back in those days (1950's) , I'll bet they had their own communications tower. I would have never thought of that heavy of equipment for a radio tower, but that is way over my head!! I'm going to bet I salvage enough lead and copper from this dig to amount to a hundred bucks or so! That will go a long way toward a new metal detector!! Thank you for your reply and I hope your hunting this year, with that Garrett Ace is nothing less than awesome!! Thanks again!! The Kid

Glad to have helped! I bet they did have a substantial tower for good communication range to radio dispatch their maintenance crews.
