Welcome to the greatest show on earth! If you want to know what is it, this would be the place to go!!
The other day I was in the 1600's. My treasures include 2 Bale Seals....Any info on the "8" on the seal? I have only found Bale Seals with a wire, not folded over lead. Maybe a rope or cord went threw the seal? Any info greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I was going to suggest possibly that these are pot-mends, but not sure now....

This site does date from 1655-1675! I've only seen them with a wire. They look like one piece of lead folded over. I've never heard of a cloth seal

Thats what a cloth seal is. Used to seal up bundles of cloth for export.
