Need a ID on a uniform. PLEASE!!! MORE PICS

I bought this portrait at a auction a year or so ago. I was digging through my storage the other day and came across it. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what and when this uniform was worn. I would like to research and find out who this gentleman is. Thanks for any help in advance. HH JYD.

I believe that's Admiral George Dewey, hero of the Spanish-American War. He was sort of an 1898-99 superstar, and countless images of him were displayed in public buildings and homes. This particular example is the work of photographer George Grantham, and was reportedly taken on board the USS Olympia, upon Dewey's return to the United States in 1899.

That makes sense because I also bought a large portrait of George Washington, like the kind that you see in a school. I didn't pay alot for them and a couple other paintings. I guess I will clean them up and put them in our flea market booth. Thanks again for your help PBK.

Make sure you check inside each picture for any hidden papers. 20 years ago a guy in Pennsylvania bought a painting at a flea market just for the frame. When he removed the picture he found an original print of the Declaration of Independence that he sold for $4 million.

Not bad for a $4 investment.

Kansas. I really dont know what house this is or who painted it. Its a pretty cool pic, I really cant make out the artist name on it and there isnt any other writing on the frame or back, I may take this one and have it looked at by some one who knows more than I. The way they used the white paint on the horse and carriage wheel is very nice, is this some kinda of technique used ? I sure dont know but I plan on finding out. I'll add a couple more pics so you can see what I mean, the last pic is where the signature is I believe, the glass is broke there and there is some moisture damage also. Thanks for the interest, JYD
