I would recommend a Nikon camera. I use a Nikon Coolpix 2100 2.1 megapixel camera. It takes excellent close ups. And overall other good shots. There are some up for sale on ebay. You can get a new Nikon Coolpix 5 megapixel camera at Best Buy(probably walmart too) for about $150. The used coolpix cameras you should be able to get for about $75.

thanks for the info mirage a buddy of mine also recomended the coolpix line but didnt mention any models...did a quick search on the net and came up with like 20 models of the coolpix line...but now at least i have a model...will hit up walmart tonight on my way home from work Thanks again for the info

I've been using a Fuji Finepix for several years now. Purchased it a few years ago with extras for $100. It takes good close-ups and it was the camera of choice for ebay sellers for a while.

A lot of it though is learning how to best use your camera and not so much the camera itself.

yeah, i know but my camera doesn't even have a macro setting.......

I have a 4 mega pixel Fuji Finepix too. You need to have a macro setting to get decent closeups.
There are a few other things I am finding out about taking good closeups:
* It helps to have a tripod.
* Proper lighting is important. (Don't use flash photography)
* Using the timer delay function eliminates any movement when depressing the shutter switch.
* Oh yeah, one more thing. Don't trip over your tripod just as the shutter button is depressed. ;D
Good luck in your selection.

I'm an old time Olympus fan. Got my wife an Olympus Stylus 500. Its 5 MP, all weather, zoom, has a macro mode and some other bells & whistles. You can get them refurbished for about $180. We got ours refurbished and no problems. Small too with a tripod threaded mount. Handles low light close ups very nicely and it is good for just about anything else you'd want to do with a digital camera. Sometimes I prefer it to the high end Olympus that I have.

Ask Seeker about this. When he bought his camera, he took an old coin to the store with him. After trying all of them, he chose the camera that took the best close ups.

Give him a PM...I'm sure he'll be happy to answer your questions! :)

Nikon coolpix L3, I've just started using mine and I'm pleased w/ macro close up feature. (Not that bad from Best Buy either. Should'nt be over $139.00 or so.)
