I am also finding information on one in New York but haven't found it by that exact name, yet.

Thanks so much. So the R C. Would stand for Rail Car?

The button actually reads Metropolitan Street RY. Co. Some references says it means Railway Company and others say Railroad Company. And, it probably does date to the late 1800s-very early 1900s.

Nice button! I have the Van Court Transportation Uniform Buttons Vol. 2 "Transit" book and it lists this button with the New York company. Here is info. from the book:

I figured the odds were in favor of it being the New York line considering the OPs location.
