neckerchief clasp ring? Brass

found this today at an old home site... its brass and about 1" diameter with stamping of sherlock holmes? and the letter "Q". it appears to be some sort of kids accessory, like a scout neckerchief ring, but I searched for old scout rings as well as sherlock Holmes, etc.

Maybe "Q" was the first initial of its owner (i.e. Quincy, Quentin)? Or perhaps it represents a magnifying glass - although that would be an unusual place to put it.

The image looks more like a vintage boy scout to me. The Q could designate Quartermaster on the neckerchief slide.

The ring looks to be tapered, some I'm going with a brass ring off a magnifying glass handle as well.
Date wise, probably 1940s.

I believe what you may have is the insert between the the pipe bowl and the mouth piece. Sherlock smoked a pipe. I think Fourman is correct.
