There was a photographer who went by the name of A Adams in these parts. I figure you have seen the better half of him based on your images.
Somehow the wind swept image of Whitney shall forever haunt my screensaver. besting a local legend.

Yes, that's Ansel Adams!

I could be mistaken but I believe ronwoodcrafts image is of the Whitney portal with the Alabama hills in the foreground.

There's just something special about that area.
 

Yes, that's the foothills of Whitney and the Alabama Hills. This pic seems to have been taken from just south of Lone Pine. Whitney, itself, it not the peak on the right, but actually obscured in the clouds to the left of that peak. And because Whitney is located further to the west (and therefore is closer to the horizon from the viewer's vision in Lone Pine), it is frequently incorrectly guessed as not being Whitney.
