I took my neighbor on his first metal detecting trip with his new detector today. We went to one of my favorite sites that has a barn built in 1812 and lots of history. Ground still not thawed so we did a lot of digging near an electric fence meant to keep certain animals in. It was the only soft ground we could find. He has his head phones on and I see a blur out of the corner of my eye. The electric fence was left off and a bull jumped through the fence. I said "uh oh" . My friend looks over and looks at me an says "is that a bull?" I said "Yep we are out of here!" I told him grab his gear slowly don't look at it and we will walk away slowly. Meanwhile another still inside the pen starts bucking. As we are walking slowly away I told him do not look back. "he is following us isn't he?" he said. I said " Yes lets cross this stream" So now we are trapped. We are on the edge of the property and can go no further and the Bull is still on the road blocking our way back to our parking spot. We walk down the road to the owners son and let him know the bulls are getting out. We walk back and stay far away . Soon a pickup truck comes roaring up and 2 guys get out and go after the bull. It jumped back through the fence after being coaxed through. The truck drove further up and reactivated the fence. By this time it was starting to get dark. So here is my find's for today. Not much since we were BULL'ied. and it got dark. He joked about how I was walking way ahead of him and he is older, and that I probably had painted a red bullseye on his back haha! Fun memories and a fun hunt. He found his FIRST complete horse shoe and he found an old tube of something he has to clean up.
