Found while prospecting material in western NC. I'm knowledgeable in gold but am clueless with gemstones, only know from mild reading and seeing pics online so any info from ya floks in the know is much appreciated. This stone is really heavy for it's size which is what caught my eye about it and what kept me from chucking it. After it's weight, it also has a flat base and the whole thing which may be hard to see in the pics but it's hexagon in shape, like a stop sign.
If this is in fact a ruby how to I make it ''look'' like a ruby with out the aid of a rock tumbler? I have a dremel... will that do the trick? edit to add: the pic could be misleading as it's from my phone and for some reason there in wide screen, it doesn't have that stretched look in person

Please take no offense, but the pic is not good enough for Identification. What I can tell you is, if it is corundum, which is what rubies are, you should be able to take it out into the sunlight and turn it until you can see what looks like a "fingerprint" design. That is how I describe it. When I get a chance, I will try and take a pic of one of my corundum stones to show you what I mean....(I need to wait for a sunny day here... lol!)

A better picture would be helpful as IAM suggests. If your seeing the crystal pattern and can capture that in a pic in sunlight that'd be useful as well.

Here is what I mean, sorry it's cloudy out so not as good a picture as I want. You can see on the edge/corners on this one, striations that make it look kind of like a fingerprint...
Sometimes you can also get a stone that has triangular striations like the last pic.

Looks like you were able to adjust your pics? Now I can see that it has a classic hexagon shape to it, so it very well could be a nice hunk of corundum!
