Likely real, as there was no need to counterfeit them. Germany had hyper-inflation which required a lot of money for just a loaf of bread, and a lot of money minted, thus these aren't rare or terribly valuable.
Its a pfennig, incase your friend didn't mention it.

The hyper-inflation occured before Hitler, he stabilized the economy, which is a reason why the Germans followed and respected him.

The coin is real, worth a few cents at most. There are many key dates in the Nazi coins, but none for 1940.

That is a much better answer... A little embarrassed that I messed up the timeline there, but I suppose a bit of humility does the soul some good.
