Well, I got to get out and swipe a little bit between each truck while cutting corn. Was out there sweating, and bout half dead when I got a good solid 42 on my minelab. I was headed back to tractor, but the signal was too good to pass up. At first I thought it to be just another flat button so I put it in my pocket. After another truck headed to the mill, and we were at another stopping point I pulled it outta my pocket and I saw the hint of something. Waited to get home to hit it with a toothbrush an BAM! Us navy. Old too. Didn't do too much ckeaning, and it wound up like this. I'm not usually this dumb on buttons, but anyone have any info on this. My button guide doesn't have it in it. It's not a good guide. Guess I gotta find me a good one finally. After all these years of my dad and I hitting this field hard every year it turns over some more stuff. Next year it'll be rowed up again, it was no till this year.

Near as I can tell, according to Record Of American Uniform And Historical Buttons, (by Alphaeus H. Albert), it is a pre-1830 button with Albert reference number NA-81A1.

Might have to find a copy. I can't find anything online bout this button.

That is a very good find. I agree with Keith's ID except that your button is actually NA 81A. The NA 81A1 is the Treble Gilt/Standard Colour backmark. The United States Navy backmark is a little rarer. I know I'm nit-picking about the ID and don't mean any offense to Keith.

There is very little in Albert's book. Here is what it says.
NA 81 Navy, 1-piece with border and circle of rope.
A. The eagle facing left, with 16 six pointed stars "*United States*/Navy" rm; 24mm RV35
1. "Treble Gilt/Standard Colour"; 24 mm RV 25.

RM means raised mark referring to the backmark and RV means relative value. Albert's book was published in the early 70s so I wouldn't put too much into the relative value because it is highly likely that more examples have come to light since then.

Thanks yall. I figured it somewhat rare when I couldn't find one online. Never seen one, nor have I seen one with that kind of backmark. Most
York extra rich, or something of that nature. Got plenty of coin buttons, but none of these. Maybe I'll find a few more. Haha.

If that back Mark is raised letters rather than punched in that combined with the mold seam should make it from the late Seventeen hundreds according to Back Mark Dogma as we all know it.

It doesn't get much better than that for dug condition.

Congratualtions on the beautiful button find! :occasion14:

Not an issue. I was just going by what I could find through a Google image search and what other people had posted on other sites. I didn't have a copy of the book to use, although it appears to be a good resource.

Cool. Thanks yall. Never found a button from this period before. Definitely wouldn't have thought it'd be in the shape it's in.

Wow, great button and the condition is excellent. The green patina on the back is great and may be left from its use on the high seas.

man thats one great find! The navy button eludes me.

Nice button! Still on my bucket list, congrats and HH

Thanks ya'll. Been back out there, but no more. Maybe one day I'll find the rest! Haha. Highly doubt it.
