Not sure of the age, but that’s a Marine Corp Button, not Navy. Neat find.

Definitely not from the 1800s. The backmark on this US Marines button, saying "WATERBURY BUTTON CO. / Conn" (note the lower-case letters in the state abbreviation) written in plain block letters (not serifed letters) means it dates from the early-1900s up to 1943, when the Waterbury Button Co. changed its name to Waterbury Companies.

Additionally... if this US Marines button has what is called "black finish" on its front, it dates from 1910 to 1923. If there's absolutely no trace of it ever having black finish, it dates from 1924 to 1943.
