U.S. NAVY Modern Pattern.trk5capt...

How modern is modern? I will offer it to the people that have the property I am searching. It may have been their Dad's?

That is one nice button! I like finding the buttons the best.....But let me ask you this. Did you take a one hour lunch? lolol ;)

Nice job! The Seeker

MM... Nice button!

With no backmark, and with that "self-shank" I really think you have a sport (coat) button, non-military.

I've been wrong before...

If it is not navy it is definitely patterned after a navy button.
I believe the eagles head is pointed the wrong direction though to be navy. But then again I am no expert.

Tin,
Thanks for that site. It looks like the oldest my button could be is 1941 since the Eagles head is facing the right.
Here is what the site said:
"The earliest Navy button having both an eagle and foul anchor dates from 1797. In 1852 regulations stated that the anchor should be nearly horizontal. On May 14, 1941 the Navy ordered that the head of the eagle face its right side. Buttons made prior to that date generally face left. "

Very interesting site.
Thanks,
MM

MM, I believe Jim is correct, given the self-shank on the back. You can't go wrong offering it to the land owners... maybe they will find something in it that will keep their faith in you in good regard, which is always a good thing.

MM,
That button fits right into the thirties / forties era stuff we found there. Maybe the owners might remember what it came from.

I wouldn't have minded finding it! ;)

Nice work.

Your button looks like an old military button, you might try to contact the owner of this site, they have a lot of buttons and other military finds, nothing like yours that I could see, but maybe they can help.
