Found this unusual rock formation while using Google Earth to view locations near Needle Canyon, Superstition Mountains. GPS 33.440987, -111.384027, elevation 3,074 feet. Length is about 195 feet, width is about 80 feet. Because smaller stones appear to be chinked between larger stones, this formation does not look natural in origin. The last GE image is from overhead.

There are ancient Indian ruins in the Superstitions, I am not familiar with this site you have found but it is possible that it could be an ancient Indian ruin. Circlestone is in the Superstitions, one of the great mysteries of those mountains as it is unknown who built them or why.

Interesting find, I hope you are packing your gear to go check it out, you might have found something amazing!

Most of the stuff is not Columnar Basalt. The Superstitions were formed (IIRC) about 50 million years ago by three volcanic calderas that puked up several hundred feet of non-mineralized Dacite and Basalt. For example, here is the base of the Dacite Cliffs :

I agree that I haven't seen anything quite like that in the super but I can see why it looks man made at first, in fact it reminds me of a quarried stone foundation for a stamp mill at a silver mine in Idaho that I have visited a few times.

On a side note the silver mine, mill, tram towers and the town of Graham only existed for one year with the mill only operating for one shift (about 8 hours) on account of it being a big scam due to the low quality of the ore. There are other accounts of there being a lack of ore but that was not the case.

Two additional surface features seen in GE images, in or near Boulder Canyon. One feature is a "pit" that seems to have substantial depth, judging by the vegetation growing within it. The other feature seems to be a breached dam in Boulder Canyon, probably built to create a watering tank for cattle.
