Not Native American. Mexican is my guess. One can tell by the fringe. Very few times will you see fringe on Native American rugs. Although, on the coffee table sized rugs occasionally you will find it. Used for coffee tables, small tables and anywhere a small rug would be used.
Although the knots do look Navajo.
