I found this in a freshly tilled field today on Nantucket Island. I kicked it up while searching. I would never have seen it if I hadn’t dragged my foot through a little pile of soil! I also found a hide softener or some type of tool, which the point is sitting on. It’s polished on the bottom and leading edges. Much smoother on one side than the other.Any ideas on type and age are always appreciated! Thanks! Thats a cool find wow I need one some day Great job

Tdog...it is very flat and smooth on the bottom...the leading edges are burnished. Found on a hill too overlooking a pond and the ocean. Likely a camp or village site.

Redbeardrelics do you happen to know approximate age on this?

Redbeardrelics....very interesting, I did some research...possibly 2-4000 years bp...there are no chert deposits out here either. I suppose some could have been found in the glacial till that makes up the island but may have been traded in too?

Beautiful point! Great find, congratulations.

Nice point! Good to see that dragging your feet can pay off!

Onondaga chert was the first choice lithic for the culture that produced Meadowood points. Some of the chert may have been imported as Meadowood cache blades, and some likely arrived as finished points. But, yes, all of it was traded into this region.

That particular chert would not be found in glacial till in the offshore islands.....

Charl...thank you for the information. I always appreciate it and your knowledge of this particular area!
