Nana's whatsit day......

Got to go out today. The weather finally cooperated. Nice and warm and sunny... lots of mud.... but that was ok...easy diggin! ;D Started the day at the bluff. Found a lot of tin.....definitely not my best friend! >:( I found four buckles....two in each hole.... ??? And a file. That was about all the excitement there for the day. Climbing around on the edge of the bluff is pretty taxing so I decided to go find where the original site of the 1800's house might be located. It's the same house we found the foreign coins only the original site. The house was moved about a hundred years ago to the spot it sits on now. No coins. But I did manage an old buckle and then the thing with the hearts on it. And the little round sprocket looking thing was in the same hole. Found a nice bullet on my way down to the barn and found the little round miniature saw looking thing. I found lots of stuff that I left behind cause my pockets were getting very heavy! :D I don't know what most of the stuff I found today is but it was fun finding. Oh....and the chain looking thing...found it in the field on the way out. Don't know what it is either.... :D

Nana ;)

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

Great finds nana! I got out today but only found some small junk, it is really muddy out...Do you know what type the barbed wire you found is? It resembles a Dodge Six Point Star Barb, which is a single strand wire with six point sheet metal star barb. Strand is enlarged on each side of barb to prevent movement. Barbs may or may not rotate. Patent #250,219, Nov. 29, 1881 by Thomas H. Dodge of Worcester, Mass. Is that ring with the thing in the middle a type of pin for locking something in place? You found a harmonica reed, means someone was hanging around out there, could be jewelry or coins neardy :)

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

gear thing might be from clock. the ring and pin thing next to it is a clevis pin. used on tractors modern era.

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

You done good, Nana. That wheel with the hearts is from a toy, I think.

You found a harmonica reed. Every relic hunter has at least one of those!

Keep on hunting.

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

The circular thingy with the clip is used to hold the tailgate of a trailer closed. I have a couple on my 4-wheeler trailer. Monty

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

Thats some cool stuff! The thing with hearts reminds me of a knob on a water spigot !

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

OHHHHHH.... I see Jake.... I didn't know what you were referring to.... but now I see.... ?;) Does it matter that mine has more little spikes than the one in your picture?

Omni said the same thing about the heart thingy JR.... maybe thats what it is! ;) I just assumed that since the two pieces were in the same hole that they must go together some how.... ???

Thanks ya'll for the id's! AND for the nice replies! ?;)

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

Nice finds Nana! I like that Harmonica reed. Most of the time they seem to only come in pieces. Tsgman

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

:) Good stuff, Nana! That piece of harmonica makes me laugh because I would have liked to have buried the harmonica player in my last band! If you find him down there, I didn't do it- only wish I had!!!? ;)

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

Nice digs, WTG!!!
Looks like some old stuff com'n from that site. There's bound to be some goodies there somewhere...
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

Your right, yours has an 8 point barb...Maybe it was improved from the 6 point?

Re: Nana's whatsit day......

Nice relics and hunt Nana! That round thing with the teeth and square hole, gear looking thingy, I have found a few of those here in Germany. I think they went to a tobacco cutter. A small cutter bar would strike that gear on the way up and drive a small conveyor plate full of tobacco forward just about 1/4" so it would be prepared for the next cut. We used to have one around the house but I think the house ate it. HH, Mike
