These are some finds from my last three hunts...
The hunt for last week DiggerBug and I went to a local school and spent a couple of hours hunting. The ground is so hard here that when you do finally get the dried up grass to let go of the cement like dirt, it takes 10 minutes to dig a two inch hole! :P Well, being that digging was so difficult I decided to be a bit more picky about what I was digging so as to not tire so quickly. Got a really great beep and it wasn't five inches, so I decided to dig! Oh my gosh! A little sparkly diamond looking at me from the dust that was still flying from diggin that hole! ;D I was so excited!!! Till I got it out of the hole and saw that the backside of the ring looked as if it were plated. :'( Ended up with the ring, a broken chain, some change and two wheats.
Next hunt DiggerBug and I went to a skating rink in Morris. Dang it was hot and dang dry too. :-X Only one shade tree to be found on the entire premises and after about 30 minutes Lisa and I found ourselves under that tree and ready to go! :D
Found the usual clad and a wheat...1955.

We then went to a park in Warrior that has a few more shade trees and suffered through 95 degree heat only to come out with some change and an odd bat ring. (Thought that one was silver, but no marks anywhere on it) :-\

I went to the button site for a couple of hours and found a buckle and a 1916 wheat.

Anyone have any ideas as to how old this buckle might be?

Hope you all have a GREAT weekend!!!

Nana :)

Even with the heat and hard soil, looks like you did goood. :) I'd wager there's not a bit of metal to be found under that shade tree either. LOL

Hi Nana

The ring is pretty for sure, too bad it didn't say 14k, nice finds my friend, congrats!

Smiles!
Scooby :D

WTG Nana/Lisa! Those are good finds. You should revisit when it gets cooler and the grocer restocks his 'lil Debbies'. I like some of them myself, one about every six months.Which are your favorites? You guys should get a handheld battery mist/fan.One with an umbrella follow and use it on the 'hunter/digger',then switch every 30 min.And send pics! Bet I know who the bat ring fits.

At least it was exciting for you, that's what counts. The picks didn't come up for me though. :(

:D Thanks ya'll!
Stoney...not one little bit left there! :D

Thank ya Scooby! :)

WarsawDaddy....brownies, fudge rounds and those little devil cakes! ;) And the fan/umbrella idea might just be a good one! :D Keep us nice and cool and water the grass at the same time!?! :D

HH...thanks...don't know why you wouldn't be able to see the pics. :-\ Sorry....

Hey Dano!!! Great to see you on here! :) Thank you for the info on the buckle! :)

I like both rings. The bat ring probably belonged to Count Dracula so don't dig too deep when you are in that spot again. The buckle looks just like those we used in the Navy back in the early 60's.

Nana,

the bat ring is very kool, I like it alot.

continued success

Nana,
Thanks for the great post. Great pictures. Sorry your diamond ring wasn't the real deal. I feel your pain. ;D That bat ring looks super cool though. We're going to get nailed with that hot weather here tomorrow. No digging on Father's Day for me I guess. :'(
Have a good w/end,
MM

Hey nana.........I know the feeling.....! Plenty of sun and no rain makes for some down right hard digging. Plus if you not care ful and taake plenty of root base on that there grass , you will have what looks to be brown moon craters all over the lawn. lol This hobby is strange in the sence that you have the highs and lows. Gold ring then plated ring. Glad to see your out digging with friends and finding some great stuff!

Take care and happy hunting......................John

even if it is platd they are still fun to dig up
and the ground is the same way here in KY right now

nice bunch of diggs ya got there either way
HH

Nice digs their Nana!

I know how you felt about that ring. About 9 out of 10 I dig are kiddie rings. They can really rock you for a bit.

I have no idea about the buckle. I find so many different types myself that some day I'll just run them all here and try and find out what they are.

It's also been very hot up here in Michigan. Yesterday it was hotter in northern Michigan than it was in Chattanooga.

Pretty ring, Nana! And a nice pile of clad too!

It sounds like you really worked for those finds considering the heat and the dry soil.

Sorry, but I can't help on the buckle.

Thanks for sharing.

Nana,
I'm right there with you and MM. Last "gold" ring I found was a gold painted aluminum ring! :P :D

Hot is the season. We are ok but in serious need of rain.

Great hunting Nana,I really think that skate rink is a good spot never thought about hunting one near me. I work on the roof in the hot sun and have for 20+ years now. Ive taken to wearing a great big panama hat, biggest one I can find,if you fold your arms in its like standing under a tree, Id really like to find one of those great big pointy hats they wear in the rice fields but cant find one big enough. Oh also sunglasses make it seem a little cooler than it really is. Another great tip for staying cool is when you get a drink of water pour some on the inside of your elbows, lotta veins and such there will really cool you off in a hurry. If you are digging in an area that you really arent worried about damaging Ive found that a straight claw hammer will really go through some hard soil. Maybe someone should start a thread about staying cool out there in the hot sun,I bet Tinpan has some good tricks, stay cool out there and HH...Shoot
