Panned placer or panned crushed ore? I'm guessing that the gold is tied up in some complex mineral that needs further treatment to liberate it.

That's crushed ore my friend...and yes - it's the type of gold that makes you feel rich but that you'll never get rich from hehe

I don't see anything there and it's not even crushed. Crush it to powder pan it and show some elements.
I only see leavitrite.

I'm no expert but I've crushed ALOT of rocks for gold and it looks half crushed. I don't see anything but rocks in a pan but maybe there's gold who knows. I ain't trying to burst bubbles but I seem to say alot of the wrong crap on here.

hehe, so Johnny - to give you a bit more info. First - Archimedes - specific gravity, is around 7.5 on these samples -which is why most likely the silvery stuff is molybdenum, lead and the pyrite is the gold looking stuff. Pyrite is always chunky and plated. In this case it is also attached to native rock, which is metamorphic schist. (I think).

Second - Streak test – There is a very easy and simple test to tell if your rock is gold or pyrite or a myriad of other things. Take a gold ring of your wife’s and streak it on a streak plate (little porcelain plate). And then take a chunk of what you think is gold and streak it. The gold will streak a fine gold line. The pyrite will streak dark grey. Fastest, easiest way to tell. Amazon sells streak plates at 8 for $5 or something. I have one in every vehicle, handy little things..

In the sample above - there’s a very small portion of gold on the edge of the first pic, which is really good considering the amount of crushed rock. The second easiest way to tell if there’s anything in this is to add nitric acid to some of the heaviest portion of the sample. High grade your sample here. OUTSIDE for 8 hours in an old yogurt or cheese container (#5). Those little gold test kits are great for small amounts of testing. It only takes about 1-2 mls of fluid. Gives off an awful stench and putrid fumes. Fun to watch. Neutralize with baking soda (stuff is terrific to have around – old freezer stuff works best so your wife won’t complain). Gets rid of the pyrite into its basic FeO2. Rust is the natural state of Iron!
