The correct orientation of the monogram would be as shown below, with "Co." (company) at the center— U T Co.

It's a uniform button originally worn by employees of the Union Traction Company, a trolley line operating in Philadelphia, PA from 1895 to 1902.

According to Van Court, the same design was later used by the Union Transportation Company, which operated in New Jersey from the late 1800's until 1931.

If it's a coat-size button, it's worth around $6-8; cuff, $2-3.
