I dug this out in a field where I found a bunch of other strange odd items.
I know there were two civil war battles near by but don't know if this is in any way connected.
It looks the same on both sides.i did electrolysis to clean it up a bit before posting.

All I know is it's the best one I've ever seen.

don't know what's it called, but part of the strap to secure the saddle under the horse belly

Bed rail hooks is the correct name.This pic shows the part they hook into .

Thanks guys.

It's always amazes me, the simple things that stump us and the exotic things we help each other identify.
We dig in the dirt then come home and dig into researching how to make the junk we found seem worth the coins we didn't find.

One of my friends sent me this picture from one of his books. I'll have to get the name of the book later but it sure muddied the water.

Thats not the first wrong id to make it into a book.
Look up antique hardware.com and robinsons antigues.
They both sell them. They are bed rail hooks.
I cant post links from this phone.
