This is going to be a series of rocks that I have found or was given to me by my grandma. This one is a rock that appears to be granite? It was found in a field rock pile, in Iowa, and was found in one piece and had about an eighth of in inch crystal looking fracture that I ended up cracking to see the inside. Anyways does anyone know what it is?

It surely is related to quartz in one way or another, can't tell any details from the pics so I'm not sure.
Try taking pics in daylight if you can. :)

Microscopic examination of a polished thin section would probably show alteration of the crystalline structure if the heating temp was high enough.

Looks to be quartz with a outer layer of weathering, with non weathered center.
