Dear fellow hunters!

I found this ring earlier today in my park, not knowing it was a ring until after sorting my finds for the day. The top of the ring's metal is cut into the name JOE, although the "E" looks like an "F" sometimes. My park and neighborhood date back to the 1910s when it was built for shipyard housing. The ring has no markings and is relatively thin. I would assume it was worn quite a bit. Included in the images I've attached is a section of the ring where I rubbed the tarnish off with my fingernail. There is a golden/brass coloration which leads me to believe it might be brass, bronze, or some other copper alloy. The metal is soft and scratches on unglazed ceramic, and the streak it makes is a brownish brass/gold color. I have no idea what this thing is made of, and I've never seen a ring with letters carved out in such a manner. Anybody have any ideas?

Congrats on finding a ring! These guys surface a lot and at first we hope for a valuable find but not in this case. Not sure what it's made of but still a good find!

Do a Google image search for 'brass "name ring"'. You'll see plenty of examples.

Yours has been in the ground a long time but you can still buy those rings today.
